Our littlest learners absorb a new language easily while doing every day things they love such as playing, singing, pretend play, movement & dancing, stories and crafts….but all in a new language!

The benefits of early language learning

There are so many benefits to knowing a second language. The most obvious ones spring to mind first; travelling, understanding other cultures, enjoying films, books, music from different countries, intercultural understanding etc.

But there are many advantages which are less obvious. Knowing two languages can help improve literacy skills in their native language and all round intellectual benefits. Being multilingual improves school performance and increases overall problem-solving skills. Research also suggests bilingual children are more creative than monolingual speakers and score higher on academic tests. It’s also been suggested that bilingual toddlers have better concentration too.

Preparing children for school

Languages are soon to be compulsory across primary schools in Ireland, so learning in early years helps children become schools ready. Lingotot is playing an integral role in shaping the future through primary language samplers.

My child is 7 years old and is half Spanish and half Irish. I have been trying to teach him to speak Spanish at home unsuccessfully because he was not interested at all. The thing is, one can not help feeling the pressure from the family abroad and their disappointment when your son does not speak your native language. I heard about Elena's Spanish classes and I gave it a go. And what a change it made! He really loves going to his Spanish classes and more importantly he is happy there. We have been going to lingotots for over two years now. It has consistently been one of the best classes we have been to since moving to Essex. William loves 'bonjour' as he calls it and enjoys learning new words each week, singing songs and completing the fun crafts. He's going to school now otherwise we would still be attending. In fact we are both very sad at not being able to go. I've been to quite a few different classes and Kate is amazing. She's so welcoming and friendly. The kids love her. William isn't the most confident of kids but he always shows her his craft proudly. I wish I had paid more attention to languages at school. They are so beneficial for children and the earlier they start the more they can absorb. Plus it's great value for money!
